Men prefer 'blokey' puddings while women prefer posher desserts, it has emerged.
A study of 3,000 adults found spotted dick, jam roly-poly and bread and butter pudding are all high on the list of men's favourite desserts.
By contrast women are more likely to enjoy more contemporary treats like crème brûlée, waffles and tiramisu.
It also emerged time-honoured classics like blancmange, treacle tart and jelly and ice cream are popular with both sexes.
The report was commissioned by Crown Carveries to mark British Pudding Day on Wednesday 9th of November.
Yesterday spokesman Chris Brewer said: ''It's fascinating to see so many timeless puddings appearing high on the list of the UK's sweet favourites.
''A renewed interest in traditional values has been an underlying trend in the UK over the past few years and the results of this survey are sure to whet the appetite of millions of men and women all over the UK.
''It proves that the food fads of recent years are now taking a back seat as we all search for a bit of nostalgia in our home lives and on our pudding plates.
''Most interestingly, the survey highlighted that six out of ten Brits said that they felt it was difficult to get their hands on traditional desserts with many fearing they are dying out.''
The research also revealed there are distinct differences in males' and females' attitudes to desserts with millions of ladies spending up to 20 minutes deliberating whether to give in to temptation or not.
Plus, well over half said they only ever treat themselves to puddings when they are in a restaurant, while on fifth said it was what they look forward to most about going out for dinner.
Women were much more likely to want dessert than men, with nearly twice as many choosing a dessert over a starter and even a main meal.
They also consider having a pudding as a 'special treat' and something they save for 'special occasions' rather than something they eat day-to-day.
The research also revealed seven out of ten women admit that they get nervous when ordering a dessert in a restaurant because they don't want to look unhealthy.
And 60 per cent of those who can't resist a pudding opt to share their dessert to spare themselves the guilt afterwards.
Men on the other hand don't think twice about ordering dessert and are more likely to consider the cost than the calories.
Cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake were the stand out favourites among both sexes but after that their tastes differed considerably.
