Ant and Dec were yesterday named as the nation’s favourite ‘British Twosome’.
The Geordie ‘I’m a Celeb…’duo were liked for their down-to-earth and cheeky nature and claimed 27 per cent of the vote beating newlyweds Prince William and Kate Middleton into second spot.
Comedy duo Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders came third, while Hollywood A-listers Simon Pegg and Nick Frost emerged fourth.
This Morning presenters Philip Scholfield and Holly Willoughby completed the top five.
Yesterday a spokesman for posh ready meal brand Charlie Bigham’s which commissioned the poll of 2,000 adults, said: ‘’The results show that ‘Twosomes’ hold a place in the nation’s heart.
‘’It is surprising to see that Ant and Dec are Britain’s favourite twosome beating Wills and Kate to the top spot, even in light of their widely celebrated spring wedding.
''It is clear from the survey results that TV stars have a huge impact on the British public and Ant and Dec’s popularity is ever increasing in light of the nation’s obsession with celebrity.’’
Celebrity ‘Royalty’ David and Victoria Beckham emerged sixth most popular twosome, receiving ten per cent of the vote.
But longstanding TV personalities Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan proved rather unpopular with just six per cent and Mark Wright and James 'Arg' Argent emerged eighth.
Fuelling claims that politicians are out of touch with the nation, Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha received a mere five per cent of the vote from the British public.
Jedward completed the top ten.
The survey also quizzed Brits on their favourite movie twosomes and Bridget Jones and Mr Darcy from Bridget Jones’s Diary topped the list, ahead of all-American high school sweethearts Danny and Sandy from Greas.
Johnny and Baby from Dirty Dancing were third.
Founder Charlie Bigham added: ‘’We want to inspire Brits to have their own twosomes moments and highlight the fact that couples can put romance back on the evening agenda with our quality homemade ready meals.”
