Brits get their best night’s sleep on a Friday, according to new research.
A study of 2,000 people reveals that people are so exhausted by the end of the working week they can’t wait to hit the sack. Indeed, a quarter of people are able to rest easy on a Friday night because they have completed the majority of their weekly work load. A third of Brits are in a good mood by this point in the week because they are looking forward to the events of the weekend.
While a fifth make sure they have nothing planned on a Friday evening, so that they are completely relaxed by the time they slip between the sheets. A further 27 per cent say their good night’s sleep is aided by the fact they don’t have to get up for work the following morning.
Nick Worthington, CEO at Dreams, which conducted the research said: “Our survey shows many British workers experience relief that their week is over and the weekend is about to begin.
“The fact is that as a nation we are really hard working, so it’s no wonder that by the weekend, we are both exhausted and ready for a break.
"On a Friday night the only thing most people have to worry about is how they are going to spend their days off - that's a really nice feeling and one which would contribute to a restful and sound sleep."
The survey shows the average Brit can enjoy up to nine hours sleep on a Friday night, and takes just nine minutes to drop off into a happy slumber.
And rather than waking to the sound of an annoying alarm clock, children howling, dogs barking or noisy neighbours, six in 10 people will rise naturally on a Saturday morning. Unsurprisingly, the survey shows the average person suffers from their worst night’s sleep on a Sunday. On a Sunday night people wake up to three times a night worrying about the day ahead – with 34 per cent admitting they often worry about the week ahead.
Unfortunately, many people will be lucky to get over four hours sleep on this evening, and don’t usually go to bed until well after midnight. A third dread the daily grind of juggling work and life, while a fifth say they always have a lot on their mind on this day of the week. A fifth of Brits admit they probably stay up too late on a Sunday night, while 18 per cent are exhausted and ratty from action packed weekends.
Other factors likely to affect a good night’s sleep include money worries for 35 per cent of people, being too hot for 34 per cent, relationship problems for 24 per cent, and health problems for 19 per cent.
Nick Worthington continues: “Our survey shows that there are many facts that contribute to a great night’s sleep, but over a third of people we surveyed said that a comfortable bed can ensure a restful night’s sleep despite money or health worries. The Sleep Council recommends that people look at updating their mattresses for optimum comfort so every night is as relaxing as a Friday!
