The average woman will wear 28 different outfits over a week-long holiday, research has found. Lounging on the beach or by the pool, wandering around the local sights and heading out in the evening means women will change their clothes FOUR times each day.
10% even claim they will get through over seven outfits in one day when they are holidaying abroad.
Despite the huge number of wardrobe changes, 84% of women admit they still don't manage to wear everything they pack in their suitcase.
A spokesman from F&F clothing at Tesco said:
''Unlike when you are at home and just going to work or popping out to the shops, an average day on holiday can consist of several different activities, but each of those things can mean you need to wear different clothes - a bikini by the pool, shorts for walking around the shops and then a chic maxi dress for an evening meal.
''This can make packing a nightmare though, especially if you are travelling by plane and can only carry a certain amount of luggage.
''The trick is to make sure you plan your clothes rather than just chucking the entire contents of your wardrobe into your case.
''Packing some staple items, along with some accessories can give you several different outfits without the bulging suitcase.''
The study of 2,000 women revealed that:
- 37% like to wear different things as the day goes on during their holiday;
- 58% get changed because what they put on in the morning simply isn't practical for something they do later on;
- One in 20 even admitted they often change their clothes several times each day just to get through all of the items they take with them.
Almost a quarter of the fashion conscious women polled also said their constant clothes swapping had been noticed by their partner or travelling companion; more than one in ten even admitted their outfit changes had caused rows while they were away.
The study also revealed that the average suitcase for a holiday abroad contains...
- Four dresses, six tops and four pairs of shorts or skirts;
- Two pairs of trousers or jeans, along with three bikinis or swimsuits;
- Three pairs of flip flops or sandals and two other pairs of shoes (but women will then buy another two items of clothing or shoes to add to their wardrobe while they are away).
Researchers also found that the average woman will wear just two thirds of what they pack, with 10% admitting they use just a quarter of the clothes they take away.
Almost 25% even admit that most of what they take with them goes back home unworn while one in five say they take so much with them on holiday, they often go over their baggage allowance when flying abroad.
The spokesman from F&F Clothing at Tesco continued:
''Part of the fun of going on holiday can be buying a new holiday wardrobe before you go - and with four outfit changes a day, you will need to be clever about what you take to make sure you have enough without over-packing.

''And we hope that once your other half sees you in our summer items, they'll be too busy commenting on how great you look rather than how big your suitcase is.''
