Buzz-bee, Nemo and Zico- the weird baby names of 2012

Disney favourites Tinkerbell and Nemo are among the weird and wonderful names parents have given to babies born during 2012. Other unusual monikers with an equally aquatic theme included Sailor, Storm, River and Wade - who could all soon be sitting in a classroom alongside Buzz-Bee, Zed, Hendrix and Blade.

The incredibly creative names emerged on a list compiled by parenting website Bounty.com, picking out the most popular names given to 430,000 babies born this year.

Other colourful names given to boys this year include the football themed Keegan and Zico, while motoring is also represented thanks to Bentley and Diesel.

Bliss, Star and Pyper were also entered on birth certificates as were Kizzie and Buttercup.

In the overall top 100 lists Harry came top, with Jack in second and Charlie, climbing one place, making it to third place.

Amelia has overtaken Olivia as the most popular girls' name with Emily jumping two places as the third best name.

Lisa Penney, spokeswoman for Bounty, who now allow you to chart the popularity of a name over the years,  said:

''Parents are being creative and wanting their children to stand out from the crowd with unusual names.

"Some parents chose unusual names because they don't want their child to share the same name as others at school.  The desire for Classroom 'standout' is certainly a growing trend.

"Still, the vast majority of parents acknowledge that their children will probably have an easier ride in the playground if they choose a more traditional name, which is why more conservative names such as Harry and Amelia win out overall."

The most popular names of 2012 in the boys list are Harry, Jack, Charlie, Oliver and Alfie, with the rest of the top ten made up of Riley, Jacob, James, Thomas and Ethan.

The biggest climbers include Sonny, which moved up 23 places to number 92, and Seth which leapt 19 places to 93.

Frankie enjoyed the biggest rise within the top 100, up 23 places from 81 to 58.

But Hugo, the moniker brought to fame by Made in Chelsea star and former "I'm a Celebrity" contestant Hugo Taylor, broke into the boys top 100 after climbing a huge 61 places this year.

Arthur jumped 22 to position 68, whilst Tommy and Bobby were up 17 to positions 48 and 52 respectively.

The biggest losers dropping out of the top 100 included the American sounding Ashton and Corey.

In the girls list Amelia is top, followed by Olivia, Emily and Jessica.

In fifth place is Sophie, closely followed by Lily and Mia-  Ava, Isla and Ruby complete the top ten.

Mollie, made popular by Mollie King of the girl group The Saturdays, moved up a massive 30 places from 111th to 81.

Mya and Scarlet also made it into the girl's top 100 to positions 93 and 94 respectively.

Darcey also leapt up 30 places to 98, revived by the success of the new Strictly Come Dancing judge Darcey Bussell.

But the biggest mover in the top 100 was Elsie which rose 24 places from 95 to 71.

The biggest loser was Kayla dropping 27 places from 70 to 97.

Lisa Penney added:

''Today's baby trends change quickly and names that first seem unusual can quickly become common in the classroom.

"Just a few years ago Ava and Isla were relatively unheard of as a baby girl's name yet this year they are both in the top ten.

"Likewise for boys, there is a growing trend for 'old man' names, especially those that are given a contemporary spin by using the nickname for the traditional variation like Alfie, Archie, Bobby, Charlie, Frankie and Freddy."Generally speaking, whatever name a child is given they usually grow up to make it their own."
