Receiving an online delivery earlier than expected, getting a compliment from a stranger – and taking a ‘good selfie’ on the first attempt are among life’s ‘little wins’.

A poll of 2,000 adults discovered the small everyday moments which spark joy.

These include getting an extra hour in bed and enjoying a relaxing glass of wine at the end of the day.

Other joyous moments include waking up and realising it’s the weekend, getting a free item in a takeaway and winning a virtual quiz.

It also emerged that Brits enjoy an average of three unexpected pleasures every week, giving them a ‘happy glow’ for 74 minutes each time.

The research was commissioned by Barefoot Wine as part of its ‘Virtual Cheers’ campaign, which aims to celebrate the everyday ‘little wins’.

A video shows Brits celebrating their daily achievements, including things as simple as putting the washing out and making the bed.

Reflecting the current situation, others in the video classed working from home, cleaning the kitchen and keeping a cactus alive as their little wins.

A spokesman for Barefoot Wine said: “Now more than ever it’s important that we appreciate the little moments in life.

"This research shows that celebrating the little wins can really make a difference - whether that’s starting the day with sun, having a weekend lie-in or winding down and having a glass of wine at the end of the week.

“Barefoot Wine has always been about celebrating positivity and raising a glass to the everyday little wins, which is why we’re encouraging people all around the country to raise a ‘virtual cheers’ every Saturday to celebrate the little things with family and friends.”

The research also found receiving an unexpected gift in the post, finding a favourite bottle of wine in stock and even keeping a plant alive are classed as ‘little wins’.

More than half have been known to share such moments with others – with 53 per cent doing so over the phone and a fifth broadcasting the news on social media.

Closer to home, people are most likely to talk to their partner about a little win, followed by friends and parents.

Three in five also like to see and hear about other people’s moments of joy, with 58 per cent feeling happy for them when they learn of their success.

Almost half the nation feel positive when they experience their own little win, with one in 10 even admitting that experiencing a good moment is better than spending time with their other half.

To celebrate a ‘little win’, more than a fifth reward themselves with a refreshing glass of wine to mark the occasion, while 46 per cent said they simply enjoy the moment.

A fifth of those polled, via OnePoll, admitted they actively seek out little wins to boost their mood.

And 60 per cent said an unexpected joyous moment has the power to help them forget anything negative.

It also emerged more than a quarter would most like to experience a little win at the beginning of a day in order to boost their mood, with waking up and realising it’s the weekend resulting in a feeling of positivity for 69 minutes.

Similarly, receiving a compliment leaves people glowing for 77 minutes.

Brits also said that they can prolong the glow that they get from their little wins with rewards, such having a glass of wine at the end of the day, resulting in another hour of happiness.

But while 86 per cent believe it’s important to appreciate the ‘little things’ in life, 54 per cent said they have found more joy in such moments during recent months than ever before.

To be in with a chance of winning a Barefoot Little Win for yourself of a loved one, join Barefoot Wine this month on their social channels. Share your ‘Little Win’ experience and raise a #virtualcheers to the little things in life.
