Brits make some of the most life-changing decisions on holiday, according to research.
A poll of 2,000 adults found four in 10 (40 per cent) have made a life-changing decision while on their travels, and more than three fifths (64 per cent) believe a holiday can be 'transformative'.
More than a quarter of holidaymakers (28 per cent) decided on a change of career, while 22 per cent realised the time was right to have a baby.
Others have planned to start a new business (22 per cent), move house (22 per cent) or even end a relationship (21 per cent).
The research, commissioned by online travel agent loveholidays [https://www.loveholidays.com/], found more than half of respondents (58 per cent) believe that feeling more relaxed on holiday makes it easier to think clearly.
And a quarter (26 per cent) think the sunshine provides the mental clarity they need when they are away from home.
The holiday provider partnered with psychologist Jo Hemmings, who said: “Holidays have a transformational power.
“When we step away from our routines, something magical happens; we give ourselves the freedom to see clearly, think differently, and make decisions with a fresh perspective.
“Many Brits believe that people are more honest with themselves when on holiday, indicating that it's not just about escaping the daily grind of life, but about creating the mental space where clarity emerges and challenging choices feel possible.
“Free from pressures, problems and distractions, people find themselves making career moves, relationship choices, and setting personal goals with newfound clarity.”
The research went on to find more than half (56 per cent) of those who did make a big decision while on a trip, regretted not following through with it, according to the OnePoll.com figures for loveholidays.
Holidaymakers are also more likely to feel reflective while on a beach break (37 per cent), or a luxury all inclusive (22 per cent), and 21 per cent even felt they did the most reflection when travelling solo.
Jo Hemmings added: “It’s compelling to see how many of us consider holidays to be life-changing, a testament to their significance and the trust we place in them to transform the everyday.
"Different destinations can offer different kinds of clarity. Whether it’s the relaxing nature of a luxury all inclusive, or the buzz of a bustling city, holidays help people step outside their usual mindset and return with a renewed sense of direction."
