As the summer looms and the Manscaping season is upon us, Dorco, an expert in razor innovation for over 60 years, has worked with grooming experts Ruffians on some top tips to achieve an all over smooth look – how to remove hair for cosmetic reasons, how to handle more sensitive areas with care!
To give some context, in recent Dorco research, almost a quarter (23%) of men surveyed said they prioritised a smooth shave all over when preparing for a date. Over a quarter (28%) think that footballers look the most groomed and 58% men said a razor is the one beauty product they couldn’t live without.
Top tips from Ruffians Barbers to achieve the Manscaping look, include:
Where to start?
- The first thing you’ve got to do is trim. Wherever you’re pruning yourself – whether it’s your chest, back, armpits or pubic hair – you can’t go straight in with a razor. Make sure you’ve taken the length of the hair down as far as it can go with electric trimmers (or scissors in some cases) so that your razor blade doesn’t get clogged up.
Prepare your skin properly
- If you’re going to be taking a razor to areas you don’t usually shave, make sure you prepare your skin properly – like you would when you shave your face. Keep your skin warm and moist, so that the pores are open, and use an exfoliating soap bar to get rid of any dead skin cells lurking around. Apply some transparent shaving gel so you can see where you’re shaving.
Reach for the razor
- OK, now you look like chicken skin, take your razor. The Dorco Classic, with 7 precision aligned blades is ideal, as it’s got a lubricating strip with natural extracts which will soothe and embalm your skin as the old layers are being removed.
Shave softly in the same direction as the growth of your hair, using small strokes. Declog and wash out your razor after each pass, so the bristles don’t get stuck in the blade.
Once you’ve finished up – rinse away any excess gel with cool water, and take a refreshing shower or bath to soothe the new (probably slightly rouged) skin. Apply a non-alcoholic moisturiser to the affected areas – anything with alcohol will sting and dry out your skin.
- If you’re a keen cyclist or swimmer, you’ll want to streamline your body as much as possible – so get ready to take the plunge, and keep yourself shorn and shiny.
- Make sure that if you are Manscaping that your hair growth looks proportional all over your body… it can look quite odd if someone has hairy, unshaved arms but a completely shaved chest.
- If you’re shaving your balls – DO NOT use electric trimmers unless you have some sort of death wish. Just imagine what could go wrong. Instead, trim anything long with scissors very carefully; then, keeping hydrated with warm water, apply a generous amount of shaving gel. Pass over the area with a warm Dorco Classic razor slowly but surely, while keeping the skin taut to completely de-bristle.
- With back hair – it’s best to see a professional or ask a loyal partner (or bored friend) to help you out. You’re not going to manage contorting your arms 360 degrees around your body for a close shave.
What makes the Dorco Classic the ideal choice of razor for all your Manscaping requirements?
- With seven precision-aligned blades, making it a world first, you can be confident you’ll achieve a close and comfortable shave in the fewest strokes.*
- The incredible angulated blade technology used in the Dorco Classic gives slimmer, denser blades to reduce any irritation to the skin. The Dorco Classic also has an open structure design to enable easy rinsing, helping to keep blades sharper for longer. A Honeycomb Guard Bar with soft rubber surface allows effortless gliding over skin, adapting to the contours of your face.
- That’s not all! An advanced lubricating strip with antioxidants from Argan oil and Calendula extract helps sooth sensitive and dry skin, and heal razor burns. To improve precision, the lubricating strip has been shortened from Dorco’s previous models, making it perfect for those hard-to-reach places without the need for a separate trimmer.
- The beautiful razor combines classic design with advanced technology. A vintage inspired, gloss black ergonomic handle ensures optimum control and precision, with a pivoting head for flexibility.
