A former NFL legend and a leading aviation engineer are set to pair up in a bid to challenge the record for the longest flight - of a PAPER AEROPLANE.
Combining aeronautical design with the throwing prowess of an NFL quarterback, engineer Andy Currey and Jacksonville Jaguars icon Mark Brunell will head to an undisclosed location in London to attempt the aviation feat.
The current record for the longest flight of a paper aeroplane stands at nearly 70 metres – longer than the wingspan of a jumbo jet.
But with the throwing technique of a quarterback and the expertise of a Virgin Atlantic engineer, this is something the duo are hoping to smash.
The paper aeroplane, nicknamed NFL-Y, is scheduled to take-off at 11:00am on October 24 and will be broadcast live on Facebook.
As an official partner of the NFL London Games, Virgin Atlantic fans can take a guess at how long they think Currey’s aircraft invention will travel.
The closest to the distance will win a trip for themselves and three friends to the 2019 Pro Bowl in Orlando, Florida.
Currey, who previously held the record for the longest flight of a paper aeroplane, is eager to take on the challenge once again.
He said: “It's been several years since I held my world record, so I’m hoping my aeronautical knowledge partnered with the athletic abilities of a top Quarterback will make the perfect combination.
“For the live stream event, I’ll be designing and building the paper aeroplane with an A4 piece of paper, and transporting it in an airtight plastic bag to ensure that it’s nimble and perfect for a paper aeroplanes longest flight.
“This sound design, paired with Mark’s throwing technique of speed, strength and momentum, should be just what we need to make the plane travel the distance.”

*The live attempt, which is taking place on the 24th of October, is not officially recognised and verified against the current record requirements by Guinness World Records.
