One in 10 Brits has a specific cleaning playlist to motivate them through the weekly chores, according to research.
A UK study of 2,000 adults found 33 per cent wouldn’t dream of picking up a mop or duster if they couldn’t have their favourite tunes on at the same time.
While 73 per cent even think it feels like a quicker job when they have music playing at the same time compared to no background noise.
And 75 per cent believe it feels like an easier job with tunes on in the background, with mopping (40 per cent) and dusting (40 per cent) both specific tasks made easier with music, according to respondents.
The research was commissioned by Flash, after a flash mob to a reworked version of the iconic ‘Flash Ah-ah’ song took place in Westfield Stratford City to mark the launch of its Dance limited edition Speedmop and Dust Magnet.
A spokesperson said: "It seems music and cleaning really do go hand in hand – dancing away while sprucing up your home can really help to put the joy into cleaning.
“It’s well-known that movement can boost your mood, but this can also transform your cleaning routine and make it more fun – and our Flash Mob did just that, bringing joy to shoppers’ morning while showing how quick, easy, and enjoyable cleaning can be.”
This was supported by the research which revealed music doesn’t just help people get the job done faster, with 74 per cent claiming it helps to boost their mood at the same time.
And two thirds (67 per cent) went as far as to say cleaning with music is a stress reliever, while 25 per cent feel better after doing it than they did before.
More than six in 10 (62 per cent) also claimed it increases their cleaning productivity, compared to when they don’t listen to music.
It also emerged 40 per cent are ditching the clock and marking the end of their house clean when the final track of their favourite playlist or album is finished.
With the average clean lasting just under 39 minutes – or around 10 songs long.
The research, carried out via OnePoll, also found pop (47 per cent), rock (33 per cent) and nostalgia from the nineties and noughties (28 per cent) are the most popular genres of music to clean to.
But 28 per cent of those polled vary the tempo depending on their mood and 21 per cent prefer faster tunes for speedy cleaning jobs.
